The power car is now fully panelled inside and now awaits seats, lighting gantries and luggage racks. Note that the new roof is not painted all the way down. This is because the Wickham cars have a rubber backing piece behind the luggage racks. |
The power car cab is now fitted with all its controls and instruments and is ready for final fitting out. |
The trailer car cab is almost complete. Note the new woodwork on the doors and the new aluminium window surrounds which have been made to the original pattern. |
The engines have been fitted with an updated fire detection system which, while not original is much more reliable. The light coloured box replaces the old red flame switch and an electrical wire replaces the old brass fire detection cord. |
In side the first class saloon of the trailer - looking forward to the cab the new aluminium window surrounds are seen. This saloon is now completely glazed. |
Looking to the rear of the same saloon the smaller windows can be seen. These are this shape because the large first class seats are quite high and would otherwise obscure the glass. The windows' size has been confirmed by the discovery of original drawings of the doors and partitions. |
Inside the brake van the new walls can be seen to advantage. At the start of the project there was a half-height window to the left of the door and the window at the rear was plated over. One of the doors was also plated over and the other had been altered to open the wrong way. |
This junction box will be hidden behind the driver's seat of the power car. All the wiring is new and the box is one of four in the car - one of which was missing completely and had to be built from scratch. The photo gives an idea of the scale of the work. |
Underneath the guard's van some new conduit has been run which will link the vacuum brake system to the passenger communication cords which had been removed when the vehicle was cleared of asbestos some years ago. |
All new luggage racking is being fabricated from aluminium. This is the third attempt at a test section and has been adopted as the final pattern. The sections arrive in kit form and will be assembled in the vehicles. |
The high quality of the new woodwork is seen in this photo. All doors are having new woodwork fitted. |
Skilled fabricators have been used to make the odd-shapes window surrounds both inside and outside of the coaches. As can be seen the shapes vary widely and even include a completely circular section! |
