Full details of the individual cars owned by the Llangollen Railcar Group...
Production of what are now called "heritage" or "first-generation" railcars began in 1954 and was completed by 1963 by which time 4,600 were in service. Many of the earlier and experimental types were scrapped between 1968 and 1972 but we have been successful in rescuing some which had been previously preserved but which were in danger of being broken up.
We have saved a good cross-section of types which include the only surviving Wickham cars, the only surviving Gloucester class 100 set, one of the only two Cravens trailers left. We also have one of only two Birmingham R and C W Class 104 sets in public service.
A recent aquisition to the fleet is the 1984-built Leyland/BREL railbus of class 141 which was the first of the "second generation" types to be made. This is a very important train historically and although comparatively modern is worthy of its place in the Group fleet for a number of historical and engineering reasons.
